Who can be seen at the Teen & Young Adult Clinic?

Any resident of San Francisco County from the ages of 12 to 25 who is a Family Health Center (FHC) patient.  We can also see you if you have Blue Cross or San Francisco Health Plan (SFHP) MediCal and are interested in having your regular doctor at the FHC.  Sorry, we cannot see patients with Kaiser or other private insurance.

Do I need an appointment?

An appointment isn’t necessary. Feel free to drop in any time between 1 - 4:30 p.m. & 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Mondays. But we encourage you to make an appointment if you can; this would also guarantee that we can see you.  If you would like to make an appointment, you can call (415) 206-3877 and leave a message.  Make sure to provide your name, birth date, and a confidential phone number, and we’ll call you back with your appointment.

I already have a regular doctor at the Family Health Center; can I still come to the Teen & Young Adult Clinic?

Yes!  However, we encourage you to see your regular doctor whenever you can.  But you can see us for any of the following:
  • If you want a drop-in appointment
  • If you cannot get an appointment to see your regular doctor within the next 2 weeks
  • If you need an annual check-up and it’s been more than a year since your last one

What if I don’t have a regular doctor at the Family Health Center?

One of our goals is to make sure that you have access to a doctor who can follow you in the long run and who knows you well.  When you see us, we will try to match you with a doctor at the Family Health Center who will be your regular doctor.

Do my parents need to come with me?

Not necessarily.  However, for some services, we might need to call your parents or guardian to get their permission or to let them know what we are doing.  There are also certain health issues that you can talk to us about privately, and you can give us permission for services that are related to these issues.  For more information about this, click here.

Will my parents find out about what happens during my visit to the clinic?

In general, only if you choose to tell them.  Your visits are confidential, which means you can talk to us in private about your health.  However, if you are in danger of harm to yourself or to others, or if you have experienced incest or child abuse, we must contact the someone who can help you.  We also encourage you to talk to your parents or another adult who knows you well about your health.  For more information about confidentiality, click here.
